Moves we handle, island to island
We move customers between every island pairing:
- Maui to/from Oahu — the most common interisland route, typical 3-7 day transit
- Maui to/from Big Island (Hawai’i) — residential and commercial moves to Kona, Hilo, Waimea
- Maui to/from Kauai — full-service moves including Lihue, Kapaa, Princeville
- Oahu to/from Kauai, Big Island — we coordinate pickup or delivery with partners on the origin or destination end
If you need to move between any two Hawaiian islands, we can help. Start with a free quote and we’ll map out the route.
Why hire a full-service interisland mover (instead of a broker)
A lot of “Hawaii interisland moving companies” you’ll find online are brokers, not movers. They take your deposit, sell your move to a third-party crew you’ve never spoken to, and disappear when things go sideways — or in some cases, just tell you whatever you want to hear to get the booking.
We’re different:
- We’re the mover. Our crews — named, trained, and employed by Wailea Movers — show up at your door
- Licensed in Hawaii. PUC 4190-C and USDOT 3768407. Verifiable on the Hawaii PUC and FMCSA SAFER Web sites
- Real insurance. If a mover gets hurt on your property, or moving your property, we have the coverage to protect you and your assets
- One point of contact. Same office, same coordinator, start to finish
- You can come see our trucks. We’re based at 2000 Maui Veterans HWY Lot #256 — not a PO box with a 1-800 number
If you’re not sure whether a company is a real mover or a broker, ask: Do your own crews handle my move, or do you hire a third party? A legitimate mover will answer directly. A broker will dodge the question — or lie.
What it costs
Interisland moves are priced by weight or volume plus barge and port fees. A typical one-bedroom move Maui-to-Oahu runs $3,000 to $5,000 depending on inventory, packing services, and timing. Larger homes and longer distances (Maui to Kauai, for example) go higher.
Three things to know about pricing:
- Get a binding estimate, not a non-binding one. A binding estimate locks in your price. Non-binding estimates are a common setup for post-move surprise charges.
- Beware lowball quotes. If a mover’s quote is significantly cheaper than everyone else’s, they’re probably underestimating volume on purpose or plan to upcharge on move day.
- Book early. Barge space is limited, especially May through September. Two to four weeks’ notice is standard; longer is better.
How to prepare for an interisland move
- Declutter first. You’re paying by weight or volume. Items you don’t use shouldn’t make the trip.
- Document valuables. Photograph or video everything of value before we pack it.
- Pack personal items yourself. Medications, keys, wallet, passports, important documents, jewelry — keep them with you, not on the barge.
- Plan for the gap. Your stuff arrives days after you do. Pack a “first week” suitcase with clothes, toiletries, bedding, and anything else you’ll need.
- Confirm delivery address. If you’re still finalizing housing on the other island, short-term storage with us bridges the gap.
